Panama - Credit Rating at 63.00

S&P Global Ratings lowered Panama's sovereign credit rating to 'BBB' from 'BBB+' on November 24th 2020, citing sharp economic contraction due to the COVID-19 pandemic and an increase in government financing needs. Meantime, the country's outlook was revised to 'stable' from 'negative', reflecting the agency's view that despite a severe contraction this year, the economy will recover at a solid pace, helping to stabilize public finances. S&P projects the GDP will shrink by 9% this year, before rebounding by 7% in 2021 and then average roughly 5% growth in 2022 and 2023. Panama's government deficit is expected to increase beyond 8% of GDP in 2020, more than 5 percentage points of GDP higher than 2019, but it should gradually decline assuming that fiscal consolidation will start next year. Moody's credit rating for Panama was last set at Baa1 with negative outlook. Fitch's credit rating for Panama was last reported at BBB with negative outlook.
